The maintenance of the field and all the fund-raising and wildlife monitoring is done by volunteers. We would love it if you would like to get involved – especially if you don’t have an allotment!
There are lots of ways to volunteer, for example:
- Mowing paths during the summer
- Helping mow and rake the wildflower meadow in the autumn or early spring
- Trimming hedges in the autumn
- Keeping the nettles trimmed back on the path from the bottom of the allotment field to Lower Road (this is Parish Council land, but realistically we rely on volunteers to keep the narrow section of public footpath accessible)
- Growing and donating plants for our fund-raising plant sales
- Making a donation (contact Mike or link to Friends document)
- We have monthly walks around the field by a group of local amateur naturalists – if you’d like to get involved contact fiona@the-goulds.net. You don’t need to be an expert – we all learn from each other
- Report any wildlife you spot on the field either through one of the Facebook Groups
We have equipment you can borrow, or you can use your own. We sometimes organise working parties, but in most cases the volunteers just do what they can when they have a bit of spare time.
HATA has Public Liability insurance which covers all our volunteers.
